S. heads back up to North Shore. We have a plan but it’s thwarted because somebody made a faster move. I will get about five pages down. I need to rejig the schedule once again: In keeping with Leo’s 5th house of love given, we prescribe a meditative practice that invokes your innate ability to feel empathy, compassion and goodwill. The sign of Leo rules the heart, making this activity perfect for you: its focus is centered there. This particular practice amplifies your natural joie de vivre as well as your strong life force, proving that those energies are potent enough to reach others—friends, family, “enemies”, and strangers—purely through the power of your steady, silent contemplation. This meditation requires you to fully focus while remaining at ease and comfy. Sit down in whatever seated position is most natural and sustainable for you (you’ll be in it for 15-20 minutes), preferably indoors (so you’re not distracted by outside sounds) and by yourself. Let your eyes close and your hands rest on your thighs or knees, palms facing up or down. You will let yourself feel love (not the romantic kind, but the kindness kind), first, for yourself. Allow that self-compassion and self-friendliness to grow in your heart—you may want to simultaneously visualize a lit candle, a red heart or any other symbol that helps you connect. You may also wish to take a mantra or an affirmation, for example, “May you be well, happy and healthy”. Next, let those loving feelings extend to one good friend. Picture this pal. Send your affirmation. Then, send that good stuff to someone about whom you feel neutral, sort of “meh”—visualize, affirm. And now, and this is where it gets challenging, offer this loving-kindness to someone you consider an “enemy”, someone with whom you’ve had trouble. See this person clearly in your mind’s eye, send that compassion and goodwill, just as you’ve done with the others. Finally, visualize the four of you together, and imagine a warmth and love flowing between you. And add to this little group, people in your neighborhood, your town or city, lots of loving faces, a sea of smiles. When you feel ready to come out of your meditation, do so slowly. Repeat this process as often as possible, daily would be good, and be creative in how you might make it your own.
