Gemini 27° (June 17)

Moving the needle: The third astrological house of Gemini is associated with immediate family, siblings, (mainly, first) cousins, schoolmates and early education, neighbors and local community. It is the house of here, opposing the ninth house of Sagittarius, ruling all things out there. Drawing on the archetypes of Peter Pan and Robin Hood, Gemini males are ringleaders of their own merry bands of boon companions, drawing to him such “lost boy” characters who take his cues and do his bidding. That said, Gemini, you tend to attract those who are easy to boss around and manipulate, and as you mature, this dynamic may become locked into your experience, such that you come to rely on those who rely on you. You may be most comfortable surrounded by intellectual inferiors where you are assured to be the brains of any operation. But you can likewise become locked into a level of existence, literally and metaphorically, associated with the reptilian brain—biologically it is the most ancient part of our cerebrum which controls our self-preserving survival functions aka “the four Fs—feeding, fighting, fleeing and well, you can guess the fourth. As a Gemini you tend to cover these basic needs, foremost, and happily so. Orbiting a very close(d) circuit in life, replicating childhood experience, you enjoy a familiar, localized existence, still typically a boss of sorts, the must-be smartest guy in the room. All this to say: you must strive to be more aspirational in the company you keep. As uncomfortable as it may be to feel others may be brainier than you, you are the quickest learner in the zodiac, forever that third-house schoolboy, with the most pliant, plastic of brains, and you intellectually develop by leaps and bounds once you get over the hump of feeling outsmarted. So, ditch the dimmies that mentally drag you down, and challenge yourself with higher-minded individuals, and whole crowds thereof, who can inspire your intelligence to new, true-you levels. And remember: your planet’s namesake, Mercury, cleverest of the gods, still rules over all the boys in the hood.
