Aries 14° (April 3)

I feel the need to write poetry again. I am now in my seventh year of writing this Blague. Year six, I went through the first five years, and excerpted from five Blagues per day, as a way of taking inventory of what came before. If there are any blocks of text following this paragraph that would be from the corresponding day last, the sixth, year. Today is going to be very productive and we are simply going to defrost some samosas. I am going to try and watch Archer. Last night we watched Slings and Arrows which was pretty good. I actually want to see more. I will try Archer again. I didn’t quite get why it is I should feel jealous of an animated man. But I guess I do. However I love Jessica Walter so much I have to give it a go. Let’s see so I will read through both Aries chapters and at least get the man into shape before the day ends. It will be something of an early night as we have to be in Dartmouth in the morning. Tomorrow I will focus on working through Aries woman and that’s all I’ll get to I imagine. Discovering some things that should come in very handy moving forward. Like a sort of exercise segment. Aries man is going to prove, like Virgo woman, to be a model moving forward. I’m going to let the text be pulled out of me by the need to hand off pages in the process. I figure I can keep this up for two months and, as we are in the daylight time of the year, there will still be enough time to walk and do other exercise; and I’m going to make salads and things that require very little attention, a quick cooked protein on the side.

The biblical Aries archetype of Adam lives in a pre-fall state of purest being, devoid of the consciousness of duality, a self-determining figure for whom second-guessing isn’t a thing. He points to any object and names it, life being led on his own terms at the same time that he is living it on its own. In this metaphorical landscape, there is neither conflict within oneself, nor separate levels of existence, heaven and earth being one and the same. We can all ask ourselves, but especially you, Aries, how are things any different now? No matter what predicate you add to the sentence beginning Life is…whether it be weird or wonderfuleasy or hardjoyous or painful, it still begs the question: compared to what? And this is the point: None of us know if there is any other experience awaiting us, whether some fluffy clouded heaven or some Nirvanic state of enlightenment, and yet we have all been conditioned to belittle life on some level, whether blatantly or barely, labeling it some kind of mere existence. It makes no real sense nor should it, especially to the Aries realist, which is why we find more self-realized natives of this sign gravitating toward spiritual philosophies and practices that espouse the doing of good for good sake, without any promise of pay-offs in the form of some hereafter. Not to say that Aries discounts heavenly notions all together, but he tends not to bank on them, a spiritual attitude that can take him a long way.

While it’s likely true that Aries people strike the rest of us as being what is widely considered selfish, we can say in the same breath that we have also found them to be, often simultaneously the most selfless and Zen folks in the zodiac. And the former observation typically gives way to the latter, as, if you do catch even a glimpse of your own me-mania, Aries, you will consciously compensate as best you can.  Eastern philosophies and religions tend to appeal most to Aries people, and we chalk this up, rather unironically, to the emphasis on the Self in these traditions. The same is true for martial arts, named for the sign’s ruling god and planet. Aries man’s same signature in-your-face energy, which is in no small way hormonally fueled as a rule, is something he can successfully harnessed and channel into actions dedicated to the benefit of both his internal well-being and that of the collective, be it small or at-large. He must include all facets of energy in so doing, sexual energy being one and the same with his Chi, a word that simply means aliveness, our animating force, something Aries has an inherent sense he shouldn’t squander, neither should he hoard. As an exercise, Aries, embrace for a moment the primal male archetype of your sign, that masculine principle of Mars, working backward to his roots as the male fertility deity, that free-wheeling herder and wild hunter steeped in the bestial experience, the “horned one” the antlered anthropomorphic god, the intersection of the animal and the divine (hello, humanity). Feel yourself fortunate to draw upon so raw and unadulterated a cosmic energy, surging through your bloodstream and in your loins, circulating ever outward to your extremities and beyond, so to create a glowing aura around your entire person, rising to the crown of your head, upwards and outwards, visualizing this energy taking the form of ram’s horns or a stag’s antlers. You might take a few moments each day to stand, feet firmly planted, and perform a physical visualization exercise along these very lines. In Jungian analysis, the horned god is associated with a lack of, and compensating for such insufficiency in, fathering, something to which the Aries son can too often attest. Whether pitted against his own father by his mother or otherwise ignored and avoided by his dad, this is a pattern which Aries man is hard pressed not to repeat with his own male offspring, over whom he tends to maintain dominance, treating him like an accessory if not a personal assistant.
