Aquarian “water bearer” of everlasting life. In Greek myth, the cup bearer, Hebe, pours the nectar that ensures the gods’ youthful immortality. John the Baptist too bears the baptismal waters of everlasting life. He, the lone voice in the wilderness, alienated, outcast, a madman, the weirdo on the shortbus who’s really just ahead of his time. Well we know how alienating being a progressive can be!

But Aquarius fixed-air is a point of light. A star. The Star in the Tarot depicts the Waterbearer. It surely does. It’s our true north. Truth. Revelation. Aquarius’ motto is I know. We can’t tell you how to have a revelation, but it will come in the eleventh hour if you’ve done all you can do. The eleventh house that of the future. Revelation gives you a glimpse. It’s also the house of humanity into whose arms you might fall. A trust exercise. Opposing Leo, the Sun, Aquarius is our own distant star to which we may return.

Sagittarius—excess—run amok is then restricted, contained by Saturn-ruled Capricorn whose motto is I use, that is to say I don’t waste, I save.. Capri-corn, the goat horn of plenty, is all resource. Capricorn is cardinal-earth, the mountain with its natural resevoirs. We go to the mountain to receive god’s commandments, rules, restrictions—designed to help others rise up spiritually. The sign rules the bones and skin, structure and containment. And for some strange reason God tells Moses build your tabernacle from goat hair. Mo-hair.

Tragedy. The word derives from the Greek tragodia—am I pronouncing that right?—meaning Goat Song. The scapegoat saves us by riddding us of excess sin, baggage. Do Capricorn people tend to be scape-goated? Sure.

But your point is well taken. We all must ask ourselves for what are we willing to do? How much YOU willing to sacrifice, and for WHAT CAUSE for the good of all people. Saturn rules Capricorn. In myth he’s the old deposed king, cut down. His emblem is the sycthe, the sickle, the grim reaper, old father time.

Enter the mutable-fire sign of Sagittarius ruled by Jupiter, named for the uber god of lightning, fire in the sky, triggering altered states of genius or madness. Either way a bit touched. Jupiter’s wife Juno, too, is blindingly radiant, a terrible wound but a gift of second sight. Sadge’s motto is I see, our vision being most expansive. Jupiter is growth, optimism, liberation, excess. (Sagittarius rules the liver.) And the thigh from which Jupiter gave birth to wild child Dionysus, another prime archeytpe of the sign. The orgiastic god of wine, the ancient drug of choice for blowing ones mind, forging a stream between Libra consciousness and Scorpion unconscious.

Though you don’t need hooch to do so you must continue to blow your own minds, to expand your superelastic bubble brains with exposure to the exotic, the extreme, extrinsic exhultant. Education from the Latin Ex to draw out. Knowledge is power and Jupiter and Juno are gods of it!

For all Libra’s goodness and light, Scorpio is dubious of appearances and must dig below the surface. If Libra is the glaring light of consciousness Scorpio is the deep, dark unconscious.

Its ruler Pluto is god of the underworld. It’s the fixed-water sign, symbolic ice, crystals, gems wrought by subterranean heat and pressure, a metaphor for the subconscious where deep meaning lies. From poetic Psalms to wise Proverbs we’ve left Libra’s gleaming pulpit of to delve our own inner depths and the subversive, hidden elements of society.

We all really must make an effort to uncover what’s going on—in here—and out there. Societies, like people, are only as sick as their secrets and not to go all conspiracy theory on your ass but there’s lots we don’t know. Pluto in his cloak of invisibility, is also god of riches. Plutocracy.

One Scorpio motto is I desire. Desires are subconscious, seeming to exist in spite of ourselves. Gems buried alive in our psyches calling to be exhumed. Treasure guarded by inner dragons of fear, shame—repressed power that must be unleashed lest it consume us! Regenerative power. Scorpio does rules the genitalialalala. We have is another sign motto. It’s our urge to merge through sex or psychic possession… Or joint banking. The eight house is that of other people’s money. Sex, sleep, death: where we merge with each other, the unconscious, and the infinite. Eight is the lemniscate the symbol of infinity. Cause and effect…

If Virgo is function, then Libra is design. It’s conceptual. The Scales are the only inanimate sign. Libra is cardinal-air, Light, enlightening, beautiful principles, ideas, and aesthetics, ruled by Venus on the astral plane. Its archetypes are Astrea and Apollo, the god of light and all abstracts like order, reason, prophesy, poetry, music.

The projection of thought forms. Inanimate but alive? Apollo is an oracular god and his high priestesses are white witches. So are Libra people on their infamous soap boxes. But we all must stand for some thing! Do you?

How about equality, democracy, liberty? Libra’s mottos I balance and We are, both champion harmony—the seventh house is that of relationships, “marriage” contracts, social ones especially. That navel-gazing conscience of Virgo now becomes a social conscience in Libra. And where the sign’s so-called opposite, Aries, is about that warrior Mars, Libra is a propenent of peace.

Yes well, in some ways every sign serves as a remedy to the excesses of the previous sign. So we see Virgo, the sign of humility, follows Leo, which is given to excess pride—a term we use for pack of lions. Now…

Virgo’s ruler is in dispute. Traditionally it’s Mercury. Yet some say it’s Chiron, once a planet that was pummeled by asteroids and disabled; some say the as yet undiscovered Vulcan. All make sense but what’s ironic and fitting is that we don’t have the whole story, pieces are missing. In myth, we do know that Mercury, Chiron, Vulcan were all healers.

Vulcan or Greek Hephaestus is the potter god, the smithy god, an alchemist and a healer. All this substantial change befitting Virgo the mutable-earth sign. Hephaestus is lame god, a humbled being who channels his disability into work and service to gods and men alike— I work and I serve are Virgo’s two mottos—in his workshop making all manner of tools, weaponry even robots! Virgo rules the digestive system. The symbol Virgin is about to ingest a sheaf of seaded grain. Digestion metes out nutrient from detritus. Digestion is a also metaphor for our conscience, our own little workshop where we fix what’s broken inside and work it all out, what then guides our attitudes and behaviors as we negotiate life’s imperfections which can be humbling.

This next song was written by a Virgo who is coming to grips with loss—a truly human experience that takes time to digest—and is trying to heal.

Poor old Hephaestus really is the god of the human condition. He knows first hand that our reactions to loss, pain, suffering, disappointment can go either way. It can give rise to virtue or to vice. Out of clay, he sculpted Pandora who, with her infamous little box, brought all virtue and vice into the world. She is the vessel, correlating to Mary Magdalene, the vestal virgin, the sacred harlot.

Our conscience is our moral mechanism for digesting, discerning between virtue and vice. And in processing hardship, we do undergo an alchemical change, the baser elements of self being burned away in Hephaestus’s kiln. Let’s hope. We are working the eternal flame of Leo, now, into a forge of self-compassion, becoming purified in the fire of our own being. That’s the virgin purity bit!

 We are all works in progress, being sculpted by experience. Our own suffering should help us focus on what’s important in life and make us more functional. Werk. Being humbled should inspire us to help others with their own struggles Serve. Now was it Jesus said about the meek…..? Yeah.

We all must feel and purge, cardinal-water cartharsis delivering us “home” where the heart is. Leo—fixed-fire—is the flaming sacred heart and hearth, the center, like its ruler Sun, of our being. Feelings move us but Leo passion sustains us and makes us whole.

The 5th house is that of creativity among other things. Like love affairs. When we embrace our creative passion—or fall in love—its as if the Sun shines on us. The Sun is a star and the 5th house is achieving our own stardom. Having a love affair with life! If the Moon is mother: nurture, the Sun father: authority and authorship. King Arthur creating his sphere of influence—the round table is a Sun symbol.

The 5th house is the love we give and “co-creation with god.” To love others or our creations, be they real or “brain” children, is to be as god, creator as well as a creature. Leo people are—God complexed? I was going to say fiercely loving but yeah. The sign’s motto is I will, which is both a command and pledge. People say I can’t find love. I tell them Love is a noun not a verb. Just do it. Or get a hobby.

And what ultimatley follows the fall but the Flood. So too is mutable-air Gemini followed by Cancer, cardinal-water. When our atmosphere gets too fraught storm clouds gather and release, rains and rising rivers. It’s a purge.

Water symbolizes emotion and Cancer’s motto is I Feel. The mystical Mother Moon rules Cancer, the tides and her namesake moods. The mind may play tricks but feelings never lie. Cancer rules the gut as well as the chest and breastesses. Our intuition and our ability to nurture, ourselves foremost.

The flood myth is a metaphor for recovery—Noah was a drunk—which we are all in all the time. Cancer people often start life feeling at sea, ultimately finding and securing safe harbor, which is an inside job. And we typically have to leave, to lose ourselves to find ourselves. The 4th astrological house is that of both the home we come from and the one we create for ourselves. Passage, deliverance, promise, hope, which floats.

Mysticism is defined as spiritual knowledge that is inexessible to the intellect, gained through intuition.

Now if If Aries is self and Taurus other than Gemini is interaction. If Aries is big-bang creation and Taurus Eden the Gemini is the Fall resulting from consciousness—the sign’s motto is I Think—duality knowledge of good and evil, right wrong, mortality-immortality. Gemini is mutable air, the buzzy electric ether of thoughts and information.

Mercury, named for the buzzy, eternally adolescent street-wise god of commerce and communication rules the sign. He is the messenger, the word of god, the logos. Yet he’s a trickster and psychopomp, one who travels freely from the heights of heaven to the depths of Hades. Just like our minds. Right. Gemini people can be the most vivid mixed messengers. But we all create our own heaven or hell via our thoughts and speech.

Try, try to go an hour, let alone a day without saying or thinking anything negative. Our thoughts must be in service to us not the other way around. Mercury is god of the literal crossroads namesake markets and merchants—once we take stock of our talents, what we have, we do want to take them to market. But it’s a dualistic world.

Mercury also rules petty thieves, deal-makers, buskers, artful dodgers, streetwalkers and of the figurative crossroads—our choices, our messaging. Gemini rules our breath and nerves, neural pathways and pathologies. How we’re wired in childhood, adolesence, the dominion of the third house along with our immediate surroundings. Our vibe. How we interract. I think Thought. It is both gift and a curse.

Next: by contrast, Taurus is all about union—with other. Unlike objective Mars ruled Aries, Taurus is subjective ruled by alluring Venus goddess of beauty inviting the beholder. It is the fixed-earth sign. Think of a garden Eden. A flower appealing to our senses, which are ruled by Taurus, along with the throat and voice. The pastoral flower gods and nymphs are archetypes of the sign, emanations of innocence which incite temptation—which we know from the bible which we’re steering clear of here tonight, a garden theme.

Taurus’ motto is I have, parenthetically (what you want). The second house of Taurus is that of our talents, assets and value all of which draws others to us. Taurus people tend to be loaded with talent. Yeah they’re full of it. But we all must take inventory of our talents and assets and cultivate them, as one would a garden, which means every day.

The bull, golden calf sacred cow are all symbols of worship, which we attract. Taurus people do tend to be a bit needy of said worship. Those flower gods. Adonis, Hyancinth, Narcisissus, they couldn’t get enough of it or of themselves.

Taurus rules the appetite, the gullet. Taurus is about creating hunger—being consumed by other. Consumate talent! Really the I have of Taurus is knowing what you have to offer and valuing it, prizing it, and expressing it in the most “divine” ways possible.
