Mussel Beach

Taurus 6° (April 26)

Have a shit lot to do. Back and forth to the cottage. Had afternoon chat with YX and went for late lunch at the Lobster Pot where I never need go more than once a year if that. Had chowder and lobster. Then had chat with EL and ended up watching Ideal Home (again) after a little mussels and such at Fanizzi’s.

Gemini Woman

Gemini woman is the cosmic switchboard operator—plugged in every which way. A nod to the Twins duality, she is the consummate connector, a role she doesn’t always want to play. She is well aware, or should be, that she can be a facilitator, a conduit, to others’ successes, via her own. Her superpowers include making amazing matches, partnerships, mutualities—equal, shared effort toward the “great work,” of mastering the happenstance of life. Despite being protean as per her mutable-air sign, she doesn’t like outward change. She is a homebody at heart and would prefer to play the puppet master, even, on a global scale, from the privacy of her own fuzzy slippers. She is the original tough cookie, promising sweetness with a bite. Drawing on “air sprite” archetypes such as Tinker Bell, she is saccharine when it suits, like Tink to Peter Pan, but in the turn of her head a devilish nature may emerge. Her ruler Mercury’s symbol sports a winged cap or insect antennae or horns, and this proverbial English rose of the zodiac can indeed be thorny.  As for Mercury’s mythic counterpart, winged Eris, goddess of discord, hell hath no fury like a Gemini scorned. Tink, the cartoon Eris, operates solely on nerves, and is easily rundown, needing utmost care and concern from others. So too does Gemini give, give, give, until she risks becoming utterly depleted. All her archetypes are for the birds: including Juliet (meaning downy), the passive beauty Helen of Troy and her assertive “twin” Clytemnestra, who both hatched from eggs after their mother lay with Zeus in swan form.

Gemini is one person you want to have your back. She’s a protective tinker, a fixer of flailing situations, relationships and problems in general. She is the mother hen on whom others come to rely, and behind whom we must all fall in line. Given proper guidance, she is the best at covering basics, and all the bases therein, making the mechanics of daily life function smoothly. She can get lost in personal causes, if not invented drama, and excess busy work can divert and dissipate energy that might go toward more long-term thinking and achievement. Perfecting the daily ops of living affords her expert status to do so, increasingly remotely, somewhere in the ether. To her mind, that is what success looks like. Reward takes the form of unplugging, over time. The Gemini influencer’s word, her endorsement, is a prized gift in itself. Mercury= Logos, meaning word. Whether lending her own name or face to a project, or touting someone else’s, all is currency. Gemini women, more than most, have launched a thousand ad campaigns; even Tinker Bell is Disney’s brand ambassador. It is her superpower to alternately wave a wand and sprinkle fairy dust or, when feeling even the slightest bit slighted, deliver a zap of retribution.

Romantically, Gemini falls for those in whom she believes, just as she does love at first sight. Astrology’s magpie, she seeks a lifelong bond, the irony being this may happen several times. Hers are working relationships where she plays boss lady in public, but team player in private. She may have vices she keeps under wraps, just one of the ways she leads a double life.

Me Day

Taurus 5° (April 25)

Going to spend the day packing and perhaps go for a stroll. I’m writing this four days later so I don’t really remember. I have the next four days off and will make many trips to the new space. It’s a lot. Mitch will be dropping off the art work. Having a bunch of leftover chicken and peas and carrots etc. Nothing much to report really. Dropped off worksheet to Montano’s. Got some new gummies. Had some oysters. Very much a me day.

Gemini Man

Gemini is forever striking a bargain, internally negotiating opposing forces along the right vs. wrong dichotomy. Outwardly navigating his own wants against those he presumes are others’, he exacts his next move, the next deal, to further intentions. His is a tricky head to be in, his brand of mindfulness Machiavellian. He keeps others guessing, sowing confusion, creating distractions. He is self-aware to a fault, providing dazzle, excitement, aimed at keeping spirits bright (and unsuspecting). He personifies the old “fake it till you make it’ adage. For him, life is about his field of experience, and what buzz he can create within it. Immediacy is Gemini’s watchword. Ruled by Mercury, for the ever youthful, “apparating” quicksilver god of the crossroads (duality) and namesake marketplace, the sign speaks to the instantaneous and the intimate, immediacy of time and space. Gemini is focused on the here and now, being engaged by community and communication, often surrounded by boon companions, lieutenants, who’ll do his bidding. He thus attracts those who lack a will or direction of their own. The fairytale Mercury, Peter Pan amasses his tribe of lost boys seeking solace and guidance. And Gemini runs on the steam of such tribalism, if not mob mentality, like that other goodfellow in green tights, Robin Hood, operating in secret, on the element of surprise, being rather thuggish even in lofty pursuits. Other archetypes include flight risks like Puck, Robin/Nightwing and Jack Sparrow.

The least introspective of signs, Gemini must work to cultivate an inner life. Even the work of great Gemini poet Walt Whitman is an exploration of all he sees, feels, senses right in front of him, a celebration of immediacy, the street-level of existence. Gemini too is occupied with urgent to-dos and shiny objects, cutting a path through life like an artful dodger snaking his way through a crowded market He is the consummate manipulator. Despite ill connotations, it speaks to his elusive superpower, that of positive thinking, hinged on experience being malleable and subject to the determination of our minds. He is nonetheless edgy and fearful of the answers to life’s big questions. He doesn’t like to feel things too deeply for his delicate nervous system. He keeps it light and moving; and yet he is more prone than most to subscribe to an eternal element of self—a soul. He takes from various religions and philosophies, tending not to fully subscribe to any one path. In love he is the least monogamist most philandering of fellows, forgiving what he might label human frailty, i.e. his own. Like Mercury, Gemini likewise wings his way through life, needing to cultivate patience, processes and preparation. Gemini is the master of the three-minute pop song, the elevator pitch, snappy patter, killer slogan or pithy pun. He is ephemera incarnate, living life to its fullest, like a mayfly on borrowed time. He doesn’t become mired in guilt, doubt or regret. Each moment provides a new opportunity to rewrite the proverbial headline. Being mercenary too stems more than etymologically from Mercury rule.

Low Key

Taurus 4° (April 24)

Didn’t eat much today. Some turkey bacon and eggs. Slept a lot and went in for a very boring Sunday shift which was still low-key fun.

Taurus Woman

If anyone can fulfill her destiny with easeful delight it is the Taurus woman. She is the zodiac’s whimsical pragmatist, endowed with a natural appreciation for life and its simple gifts of bounty. Though she seeks to be as free as can be from care and burdens (of heavy thoughts, especially) she is in no way avoidist. Rather she jumps into life, feet first, approaching all her endeavors from a natural sense of play. Ruled by planet Venus, namesake of the ultra femme goddess of love and beauty, Taurus embodies the fixed-earth assignation of her sign. That is to say, if Taurus man is the gardener of the zodiac, she is the garden itself, with the full range of metaphoric and metaphysical associations that go along with it. She is natural beauty personified, drawing on the naïve nymphs and other earthy nubile characters that express her planet’s inviting power of attraction, which is most alluring but can invite ill temptations. Like any well cultivated garden, Taurus needs to design a functional filtration system to keep out any snakes in the grass.

Her archetypes include Eve and Io, who took the form of a white heifer, the prototype of Snow White, along with other real or feigned naïve figures from Eve Harrington to Kimmy Schmidt, the biblical Esther to Myrtle Gordon in the classic Cassavetes film Opening Night. All these ancient and modern myths emphasize lessons needing learning in relationship to older, wiser women, a metaphor for the eternal dialogue between the adult Taurus and her inner child on which the whole of her existence is hinged. Envy and vanity are default character flaws for the Taurus; and she seeks to be valued, prized, and cherished and she can be impatient on this score, ingratiating herself to those she feels can further her ambitions. She can be treacle in her zeal to be treasured, feigning innocence and, stepping on others’ pedicures, taking signature shortcuts to success. Like her bovine symbol, she is myopic in this regard, meanwhile insidious aspects of her nature will not go unnoticed and can set her back lest she learns to pace herself and stop pushing. Befitting the sign’s association with the ages of 7-14 and those nubile nymphs many child stars have been Taurus, while all females born under the sign are designed to “enjoy being a girl.” Like Taurus Audrey Hepburn said: “I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls,” and there is more to that quotation than meets the eye.

Taurus’ superpower is a soft one. She is meant to shed artifice despite any signature love of cosmetics, embracing and cultivating the natural talents with which she is famously endowed. Her outsized gifts are to be appreciated, in every sense of the term, providing her a platform for protecting the natural world and the innocence (and innocents) thereof. Even the indulgence in adornment that Hepburn describes is truly a ritual embodiment of the feminine principle which, in contrast to the imposing masculine principle of the previous sign of Aries, prescribes intercession on behalf of the vulnerable, and taking responsibility, which, at its etymological root, means to respond, in this case, to any destructive forces of oppression and exploitation.
