Gemini 3° (May 23)
Playing a tiny bit of catch-up this morning and then onto a new chapter. I am on a very tight schedule now but that’s okay. The facility seems to be there, and we can always fix stuff in post. We will find out today about any travel plans. Early to bed early to rise all this week. Keeping the focus on the work: The monomyth, according to Joseph Campbell, who used the term interchangeably with the hero’s journey, compromises certain cycles, including miraculous birth, departure, initiation and return that repeatedly characterized said journey in ancient mythology. The zodiac itself traces the pattern of the monomyth; and just as we have matched the signs in consecutive order with the sequence of books of the Old Testament, we have also applied the zodiac’s pattern to the Christ story comprising the New Testament, something we stumbled upon one year by way of preparing an Xmas theme for one of our live musical-comedy holiday shows we have been known to perform. The story starts with a star, of course, which appears first to the little lambs and the shepherds on the hilltops (Aries), then it moves to the manger, a cow trough (Taurus) for the adoration, next we know Jesus is something of a mercurial street urchin already stirring up controversy in the market place (Gemini), and then suddenly he’s gone, the theory being that he took passage to the east to study mysticism, (Cancer)…and the pattern continues through the rest of the signs, but we won’t bore you further in this. It is, however, important to note that mysticism is defined as wisdom which can only be acquired by way of intuition, that is to say, not via the mind (the realm of Gemini, whose motto is I think). It belongs to the estate of Cancer and its ruler Moon, the queen of tides, whose waters symbolize two things—emotion and intuition—both of which fall under this sign’s motto, I feel. As we’ve indicated, the personal evolutionary path of the Cancer man is nearly, if not totally, one and the same with Campbell’s monomyth and its patterning, which the plot of Charles Dicken’s David Copperfield, for example, follows pretty much to a tee. Many a Moonchild may read this and perhaps emit a tiny gasp, as, for reasons only astrology can explain, guys of this sign tend to relate strongly to the title character—now you have some increased insight as to why, our fine Cancer fellow. In real-life terms, Cancer boy is often born into a family that is emotionally loaded at the time, perhaps fueled by, or even stemming from the advent of his birth. His mother may’ve been told she couldn’t conceive, or she may’ve become pregnant despite concerted efforts not to, or they may be questions surrounding his literal legitimacy. (I may need to re-think/re-write this bit) More often than not there is some kind of disconnect: his father may be actually absent or just emotionally so; his mother might be stern, withholding or generally unfeeling; one or both of his parents may have already left the bond and remarried by the time he learns to walk and talk, and he will remain the soul offspring of a fleeting union. Whatever the particulars, most Cancer man would admit that they were born at a time of flux on the familial front. Often it is the case that the Moonbaby is born to parents with alcohol or substance abuse issues and thus not fully present in that sense. The point is, from the moment he can size up the situation, Cancer boy goes in search of a sense of what he considers normalcy, which is akin to legitimacy, in that he yearns for a combination of what he deems regular and what is real.
