Chatted with Matt. It was similar to the conversation with Dave in terms of being “odd couple” which is surely true; and realizing that the giant irony is that they are friends and associates and nothing more. So, all they need to do is figure out separate residences. And now this: I first want to admit that this really sucks that ilost 5 pages of this text that I’m writing is just devastating but I am of the mind to turn this into something positive that I’m going to get this party started so hard that it’s just never going to stop and I’m going to do this freaking project now from where I am to the completion of this first draft in the matter of one single month I was saying something about Artemis seeking exceptions from Zeus and how it leads to the Leo woman wanting to lead an exceptional life. There’s a certain pent up energy built in frustration about being born in this sign because there’s such a desire to take such a huge bite out of life that if the natives of the sign don’t feel that they are living a life of superlatives they can feel pretty desperate insofar as that word relates to despair. Cancer 12° (July 2)

Food shopping in the center of town was absolute agony. I couldn’t get out of town fast enough. I took photos of the piano and put them online and already somebody wants to see it. I didn’t get much done but I am trying to get back up to speed. I hope against hope that something will shake out. I will leave Ken and Moo messages and speak with Dave twice. Had a little salmon but that’s all I was able to manage. I have some thoughts to put down: The fixed signs in astrology, the second in each of the four quadrants, aren’t as a rule the initiators or orginators that the cardinal signs, which precede them, are—instead, they are the imitators, in the best sense of the word, the honers and perfectors, taking seeds of ideas and fully developing them into solid, more viable forms. I haven’t written for a few days. Brad will come today, and I will sign all tax stuff and pay him some cash. Then Dave will pick up pre-payed Thai food and we will chat for several hours. It helps a little, particularly on the subject of pair bonding. He is a biologist and anthropologist and he says that one experiences rifts of this nature physically. He brought beer. I had one. I can’t really drink alcohol at this time. The Pad Thai was disgusting. Everything now smells of garlic. I broke down a bit when he left. The loneliness is unbelievable. Here is what I’m thinking: Just as Artemis seeks those exceptions from Zeus, being a Leo woman is a mandate to lead an exceptional life. Cancer 9° (June 29)

Well this day will promise to be fantastic as the property case gets settled. S. spends much time out and it was weird because when she got back from Ptown I suggested I would go deposit check but she insisted on doing so. Otherwise all was normal. We did the usual putting on France Musique and putting the cushions out and she had brought home three bottles of wine which wasn’t totally out of character but she doesn’t typically do so. We had an extended time outside and were musing about the future and talking about how we finally were on the same page of the book—our whole 6 and fix philosophy—and I drank all of the second rose and was pretty high and we made salmon and salad and tomato, quick dinner and then cleaned up and I went to bed not knowing my life was going to be forever altered upon waking. While we were sitting outside I was writing: That the Queen of Hearts is a tyrant because she is terribly insecure, otherwise wouldn’t need to grandstand. Female Archie Bunker, armchair autocrat. Something about taking stand but also dying on what hill. If they are not achieving on their own right that can become belittling or minimizing. They are not pussies they are something else more blunt. Relating the autocrat to Artemis showing now mercy. Can be merciless.

I want to go fetal. Cancer 6° (June 26)

S. heads back up to North Shore. We have a plan but it’s thwarted because somebody made a faster move. I will get about five pages down. I need to rejig the schedule once again: In keeping with Leo’s 5^th house of love given, we prescribe a meditative practice that invokes your innate ability to feel empathy, compassion and goodwill. The sign of Leo rules the heart, making this activity perfect for you: its focus is centered there. This particular practice amplifies your natural joie de vivre as well as your strong life force, proving that those energies are potent enough to reach others—friends, family, “enemies”, and strangers—purely through the power of your steady, silent contemplation. This meditation requires you to fully focus while remaining at ease and comfy. Sit down in whatever seated position is most natural and sustainable for you (you’ll be in it for 15-20 minutes), preferably indoors (so you’re not distracted by outside sounds) and by yourself. Let your eyes close and your hands rest on your thighs or knees, palms facing up or down. You will let yourself feel love (not the romantic kind, but the kindness kind), first, for yourself. Allow that self-compassion and self-friendliness to grow in your heart—you may want to simultaneously visualize a lit candle, a red heart or any other symbol that helps you connect. You may also wish to take a mantra or an affirmation, for example, “May you be well, happy and healthy”. Next, let those loving feelings extend to one good friend. Picture this pal. Send your affirmation. Then, send that good stuff to someone about whom you feel neutral, sort of “meh”—visualize, affirm. And now, and this is where it gets challenging, offer this loving-kindness to someone you consider an “enemy”, someone with whom you’ve had trouble. See this person clearly in your mind’s eye, send that compassion and goodwill, just as you’ve done with the others. Finally, visualize the four of you together, and imagine a warmth and love flowing between you. And add to this little group, people in your neighborhood, your town or city, lots of loving faces, a sea of smiles. When you feel ready to come out of your meditation, do so slowly. Repeat this process as often as possible, daily would be good, and be creative in how you might make it your own.

Cancer 5° (June 25)

Some days it also seems pointless. But one must persevere: The Leo experience is hinged heavily on pleasure—fun and games, gambling, risk-taking, life as a lark, leisure, love affairs— existence being one big playground, perpetual vacation. The thing you need most to learn is the difference between passing pleasure and lasting joy. There are big Greek words for this: hedonia and eudaemonia. You know the first one as hedonism. The second speaks to true happiness, welfare, or more accurately, human flourishing and prosperity; it also carries the meaning of blessedness which nods to the fifth house of co-creation with god, that is,  in living an eudaemonic life, you are aligned with the divine. Miriam Webster defines eudaemonism as “a theory that the highest ethical goal is happiness and personal well-being.” We’re down with that, and you probably are, too. Where hedonic activities give you buzz, a burst, a hit. Eudaemonic experiences address your longer-term goals and destiny, and they require sustained, consistent behavior and choices that are in line with that goal. Grab a notebook and make two columns, one for each category. Over the course of one week, take note of what you’d consider your hedonic activities and what you understand to be your eudaemonic ones. On the 8th day, tally your columns and do a little math: what percentage, loosely speaking, of your day-to-day is invested in the hedonic? 5? 10? 25? 50? There is no wrong answer. However, 10-15 % could be considered average. So long as that 10-15 % isn’t unhealthy—i.e., substance use, gambling, overspending, and other excessive or reckless behavior—you’re in the pocket of doing what contributes to the cultivation of your life purpose. Some examples of healthy hedonia are making a small, frivolous purchase, having a cookie, a glass of wine, an orgasm, etc. As for eudaemonia, the skies the limit, but it would include educating yourself, exercise, playing music or with children, cultivating your creativity, travel and investing in close relationships with a partner, family and friends.

Cancer 4° (June 24)

Things to do today include writing another six pages, getting the text boxes into some kind of shape, watching the video that RS sent, reading what’s already there and making edits. Figure out the artwork for the pages, schedule PT, find out if my car part is in. Do the sheets and marinate some shrimp, get things to the lawyer and catch S. up onn the chapters. And do this:: The fifth astrological house of Leo is, among other attributes, that of creative expression, celebrations and showing off, shining like your ruler Sun. It is all about stardom and negotiating the perks and pitfalls that come from being the center of attention. You are the golden boy of the zodiac; gold is the color associated with your sign. Did you ever stop to think how random it is that, in modern society, we have afforded actors and rock stars godlike status? It wasn’t that long ago that, culturally, theatrical performers were lumped together with beggars and thieves and other rabble of ill repute. Why don’t we worship brain surgeons or inventors or charity workers or teachers? It is truly ridiculous that, in the epoch of reality television, you can become famous for being fatuous. The point being: celebrity is totally arbitrary. Which brings us to the exercise: You are to imagine that you live in a world where what you do for a living or what your greatest passion is in life, which should be one and the same for you, is the main occupation by which one achieves fame in this world. So, let’s say you sell insurance: You need to more than imagine that an insurance salesman is the occupation of which the world and its inhabitants are most in awe, you must fully embody the concept. In truth, you do what you do out of choice—there is no such thing as a default career. Doing what you do for a living affords you certain benefits and freedoms. See the cover of the tabloid in your mind’s eye, the headline might read: Insurance Salesman Hounded By Fans. How do you feel, act, walk, talk and otherwise engage in the world knowing that everybody wishes they could trade places with you?
