The Russians want to perhaps purchase Cosmic Coupling. Senor FF is outside all day making noise. I apparently sleepwalked a whole scenario last night that I do not recall. Today I am putting all back on track. I’m ready to move this forward post Mercury’s retrograde. I hope whatever erosion I’ve caused can be reversed. I think it can. Onto the work: We are going to practice a little wishcraft, or rather you are. The first step is to make a running list of what you long for in life. But hold up—before you start rattling off all the things you want realize we aren’t talking about things and we’re really not talking about want. As we liken the cardinal-water sign of Cancer to a wellspring, a source of a stream or river, which speaks to the forward rush (cardinal) of both emotion and intuition (water), we are really speaking to feeling goals and about longing itself. True longing and wishcraft are really one and the same. Let’s illustrate this point based on past experience: Take pen to paper or grab your voice recorder and recount three to five peak experiences in life when you felt fantastic (and yes you can include a sexual encounter); describe the experience in detail, speaking in the present tense; then read or listen back, and in so doing you jot down all the times you read or hear you’re mentioning a feeling and how many times you repeat yourself on that score. The feels you mention most in describing these peak events constitute your feeling goals, those which you long to experience again. So, now you can go ahead and play it forward and, using your intuition, search yourself for feeling goals you’ve yet to experience in this lifetime. Add them to your list. You might now have a few dozen feeling goals you long for but we’re going to ask you to narrow that list down to just four (all the others will keep and you will get to them eventually). Draw a square and along each line, inside or out, write the four feeling goals you’re most longing to achieve at this juncture. Keep putting yourself in touch with these feelings, working your intuitive muscles even more—you can focus on all four equally or one or two exclusively for a period of time, which could last up to a few years. (Yes, this is another exercise to last a lifetime.) And there are some deeper resonances to all this wishcraft stuff, as with each feeling goal you pinpoint as an intangible object of your deepest longing, you have gained a chunky nugget of wisdom about yourself and journeyed that much further into the mystic. It bears repeating: Mysticism is wisdom that is inaccessible to the intellect and only gained through intuition.

Cancer 2° (June 22)

Having a hard time getting back in and really just need to push through to get an excellent second half in and then the psychology of the situation can shift. I’m pretty through the ringer right now and yet doing my best to tackle bite sized chunks of this experience, to get a jump on the day so that this is already behind me before most of the world stirs. That has pretty much always been my method. I can even just pick up laptop and stay put until late morning and do my yoga then. The two most important aspects of my day given the pole position. I feel like today is important. I knew I had to write something that wasn’t related to astrology for a few minutes. I’m grateful to be in a very relaxed, nearly blissed out state right now when so much generally backfires on me. Focusing on being in my body right now, listening to plinky plunky music. There will be a way forward, there always is. It takes a clear mind and to use the analogy I need to be more lake for a spell. I haven’t felt this chill, actually, in I don’t know how long. I’m going to let it wash over me all day and stay in this vibey place.: The scope of the fourth astrological house of Cancer and the domain of the goddess Themis are similar, if not one and the same—that of customs, folkways, mores, traditions, by which we order our lives and pass down to younger generations. And so, we are going to explore your own organizing principles, the standards to which you hold yourself and bid others do likewise. It all comes down to setting self-expectations as the cornerstones of your own code of ethics. And don’t worry that you can’t easily come up with more aspects of life on which to opine—the next time you come to a moral crossroads, or face a tough decision, that will be your cue. It might happen every day or just once a year, it doesn’t matter; this is a prescription designed to last a lifetime. And, then, please feel free to pass it on. It seems fitting that a song like Teach Your Children would contain the lyrics: You who are on the road, must have a code that you can live by.

Cancer 1° (June 21)

This country is a freakshow. I am the only Q that deserves attention at this point. Okay on with the day: As the cardinal-water sign of the zodiac—cardinal meaning initiatory and directive, water symbolizing emotion and intuition—you are designed to feel your way forward. Whereas going with the flow is passive, non-resistive, letting life circumstance take you where it will, flowing with the “go” means developing your awareness, putting out feelers for desired green lights that beckon and deserve your attention. Letting yourself be carried along by your own feelings for where the proverbial love is, that is to say in what situation, and in whose association, you sense the greatest opportunities for momentum. You may be pleased to know there isn’t a lot in the way of homework here, as this is less an exercise and more a way to be. Cancer 0° (June 20)

S. is on the North Shore today making some headway. I continue to move the needle: In the spirit of Cancer’s astrological fourth house of both the home you come from and the one you create for yourself, we prescribe actively participating in what moral, ethical and indeed spiritual inheritances you accept and those you reject. First, you need to make a basic pros and cons list on the theme of your childhood conditioning, outlining what it is you learned either directly or by osmosis in your home of origin, for better or for worse. What character-building traits were instilled in you, particularly, by your parents, and what attitudes and behavior were passed on that you just as soon weren’t. This is much a thinking exercise as it is one that requires searching your feelings. It’s all about adjectives: On the plus side, for instance, you may’ve learned by example to be self-motivated, goal-orientated, diligent, charitable, honest, true to yourself, adventurous, curious, caring, selfless, tidy, thrifty, self-reliant, careful, calm, deliberate, sanguine, fair, health-conscious, steadfast, upstanding the list should go on and on. In the minus column, by contrast, you may have been conditioned to be distrustful, lazy, neglectful, fearful, nervous, pessimistic, self-serving, codependent, snobbish, overprotective, callous, mercenary, sneaky, greedy…you get the idea. Beyond the parenting you received, think about other people and situations that had the greatest constructive influences on you and try to extract in words what qualities were poured into you as a result; while on the flipside document what would constitute traumatic episodes or dysfunctional relationships which may have fostered fear, insecurity, or unhealthy patterning. This is as much an exercise in self-definition as it is in letting go and breaking with the past. Once you feel you’ve done a real deep dive into the depths of your conditioned character, type up the lists onto separate pieces of paper—you can type them into blocks of texts or in columns, or anyway you choose. First take the paper with the traits you’d like to leave in your past and soak it in a bucket or sink, or spray it with a hose, you choose, so long as you can see the words wash away. The list of attributes you want to carry forward on your metaphorical ark (read: promise for the future) becomes a ship’s manifest, of sorts, the key words of your personal manifesto.

Gemini 29° (June 19)

I don’t know today will say whether I’m in it to win it or not: Although this exercise requires no props, no set time, no writing, nor going on any field trips, it is likely one of the most difficult we prescribe, particularly for the Gemini woman, which of course means you could benefit most from undertaking it. Still, to head off any inevitable frustration at that pass, we hasten to preface that it isn’t about nailing this task at all—it’s pretty much impossible to do so—rather it is in attempting it that the power and benefit lies; so, to coin a phrase, seek progress not perfection. The exercise is simple in that there is a two-word instruction—don’t think. Different from meditation, which is really listening with a clear mind, the aim here is to create a complete void of thought, to go completely blank, even if for nanoseconds. With mediation, when thoughts come in you observe them, allowing them to pass through and then out of your consciousness. The goal here is a complete white out. You might find that it feels like you’re emptying your mind completely, or that you are forcibly blocking out thought; or some combination of both. Being the sole mutable-air sign—mutable means changeable, air signifies thought—your head space can be a buzzy swirl of ideas and information, delivering jolts of excitement and real shocks to your system. Thus, seeking to X it out can be of great benefit. There is no visualization involved, nothing to imagine, no formula to employ—you are aiming directly for a total blankness. You may get a sense that you achieved it for a second—ah, but you realize that’s a thought, an observation; next time you’re not even going to observe. Try this when you are at your most relaxed, then again when you are at your most stressed and mentally overwhelmed, then when you’re at your most optimistic, then when you are feeling down or disappointed—try it anytime and anywhere. You might discover there is something about this exercise that feels inexplicably like a saving grace, a tool, even a weapon in the war against overthinking the proverbial thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to.

Gemini 28° (June 18)

Feeling better after chat with Mike. Haven’t heard back yet from Moo. Much to do: Gemini is the sign of community and communication, and nobody requires a network more than the Twins woman. And yet, isolation and alienation are archetypal themes endemic to the sign: Eris and Maleficent are uninvited persona non grata; Tinker Bell isn’t exactly looking to make friends; even poor Sleeping Beauty is in imposed seclusion. Every sign has a paradox, if not a smattering thereof, and this is yours, Gemini. As a child, Gemini is typically a joiner, but you get your nose out of joint most readily if (you imagine) you’re being treated shabbily by a circle of friends, or community at large. You might act out and cut off ties before (you imagine) others can do so, self-fulfilling your prophecy. Either way, your world may get smaller and smaller, a negative manifestation of Gemini’s third-house rule over intimate experience; and you can become one of those hurt people who hurt people, like your aforementioned archetypes. It can be a slippery slope—in the end, even Tinker Bell required a group intervention of folks to give her a hand. So, what to do? Well, for starters it’s important that you know you do take things severely personally—proof of how delicate you can be—but try to understand that, even if you are being slighted, nothing is ever really personal, and you should cut the would-be effects of any snubbing at least, in half. Next, and this should appeal to a dual-minded Twins character: Understand that people are divided into two categories—those who celebrate you and those who tolerate you, aka generators and drains. Seek out those in the first category and avoid the latter like the plague they are. There is no middle ground. And newsflash: It works both ways, meaning you either celebrate or tolerate others, so keep your celebritantes close and cut loose the mere tolerables. Meanwhile cast a wide network: The happiest Geminis are content with one or two close friends and a thousand acquaintances up against whom they can bump from time to time. Typically, networking is had through career channels; but should this not be the case, or even if it is, seek out community organizations that amass like-minded, similarly motivated souls.

Gemini 27° (June 17)

Moving the needle: The third astrological house of Gemini is associated with immediate family, siblings, (mainly, first) cousins, schoolmates and early education, neighbors and local community. It is the house of here, opposing the ninth house of Sagittarius, ruling all things out there. Drawing on the archetypes of Peter Pan and Robin Hood, Gemini males are ringleaders of their own merry bands of boon companions, drawing to him such “lost boy” characters who take his cues and do his bidding. That said, Gemini, you tend to attract those who are easy to boss around and manipulate, and as you mature, this dynamic may become locked into your experience, such that you come to rely on those who rely on you. You may be most comfortable surrounded by intellectual inferiors where you are assured to be the brains of any operation. Gemini 26° (June 16)

Difficult morning. All info from lawyer. Moving forward: This might be an easy one (for any other sign but you that is): As clever as being born under Mercury-ruled Gemini can make you, it’s none too cinchy to slow up that quicksilver mind of yours, never mind still it. You are the original spin doctor and, as such, you have a way of stretching the truth if not abandoning it all together. You also have a habit of rationalizing behavior, the ends justifying your means. So, here is your challenge, one which you might attempt to sustain, first, for let’s say just an hour: You are going to avoid doing, saying or even thinking anything negative (and yes even white lies are considered as such). The doing and even the saying might seem simple enough, but it’s the stinkin’ thinkin’ you’ll have the hardest time monitoring, let alone eradicating. Of course, this all works by the honor system. As you’re reading this you might be like “easy peasy,” and in truth you may be able to keep yourself from entertaining negative thoughts about other people, places and things—although that is truly doubtful at first—the real kicker, you might be surprised to discover, is how many negative thoughts pass through your noggin that are directed at you. Have you heard yourself think? You can be quite hard on you, sometimes downright abusive. So maybe you can start with just an hour in the morning before your mind begins racing, and little by little you’ll extend this; obviously there needn’t be any limit on this exercise because, well, it would be phenomenal if you could live a life completely devoid of negative thoughts, words and deeds. On route to that improbable possibility, though, the leading goal here is to stop treating your psyche like a punching bag, and, in so doing, realize that the negative messaging you may be sending/giving are parroted bits of abuse that others from your past may’ve visited upon you. The desired outcome, thus, in the process, is to develop some compassion for numero uno, which is the quickest way of curing you of laying negative trips on others.

Gemini 24° (June 14)

There are two birthdays today neither of which I will celebrate. I’m down a Manifest rabbit hole. There is always a reason for such things. Of course as the program develops the two Mashas appear. The Plunks is still the best, while the Marvel never really struck me as one. Also getting the house all back in order and bingeing on turkey hot dogs. Don’t judge me: Still moving the needle: So, you’ll want to get a (Taurus color) green or gold notebook for this exercise. As the second astrological house is that of possessions, and your sign’s motto is I have, you are going to fill pages of your notebook with an inventory of all that you possess. This is step one in a three-part process: starting with the basic meaning of appreciation, that is to say “to take stock” of all you have. Each sentence will start with the words I have; and remember that the second house doesn’t discriminate between material content and nonmaterial assets. For example, you might write I have money in the bank; I have a comfy bed; I have lovely painting;, I have good shoes, etc. but you may also include entries like I have pretty eye;, I have a strong work ethic; I have musical talent; I have a wicked sense of humor; I have great taste; I have compassion; and so on. Don’t stop to consider whether these possessions are good or bad, just keep listing. Take your time and aim to fill just half the notebook, but don’t be surprised if you fill it all quite quickly. Next you’re going to move on to the second meaning of appreciation—to show gratitude—by reading back over your list of I haves as you repeat this mantra, I want what I have, aloud or silently to yourself. Try emphasizing different words in the phrase as you do so—I want what I have, I want what I have, I want what I have, I want what I have. Now, you may come upon an item on your list that you realize you don’t actually want in your life; and so, you will cross it off and rid yourself of it in real life. If it’s an aspect of personality, say, that you no longer wish to possess also cross it off, then tell yourself duly noted. So as you continue to read through your list, to which you will forever add, perhaps filling many notebooks in time, repeating I want what I have over and over, like an incessant prayer, then the third-fold of appreciation sort of happens automatically. Whereas the first step of taking inventory is practical; and the second step of expressing gratitude is emotional;  the third form of appreciation is rather spiritual, in the sense that you will feel yourself appreciate, your metaphysical stock rising, suffusing you with increasing sense of value, worth and self-esteem.

Gemini 23° (June 13)

Hit a wall, feeling incredibly overwhelmed. That spiral feeling. The only way out is through. So we power through: The subject is Taurus: We’ve discussed the importance of appearances to your sign as part and parcel of your making a statement, a nod to the voice being under Taurus rule, and the gullet too, symbolizing your appetite to appeal and, ironically, be consumed by others. Your ruler Venus, and her power of attraction, adds up to a lot of time spent in the real and metaphoric mirror. We applaud this Taurus brand of self-consciousness! Perhaps you’ve felt the need to develop a signature look but have never done so; or maybe you have long adopted a trademark style that could nonetheless benefit from a revisit and revamp. Exploring the old adage that you are who you appear to be, and wanting to advocate for some truth in advertising, consider the question: Does the way you package yourself say who you are and how you want others to see you?
