S. will see some properties on the North Shore and I will soldier on with my astrological musings: The reason why we can like and root for a character like Marty is because the world is an unfair place that’s rigged against the proverbial little guy, an underdog (we also associate the cartoon character of the same name to Gemini). We can all relate to the notion of bucking systems that are meant to keep us down and for men of this sign the end truly does justify the means, especially if that end is to provide for a family, doing good by breaking bad. Nobody can think quicker on their feet than Gemini, the zodiac’s expert at getting out of scrapes. At some point in his self-development, however, there comes a time to put all his accumulated knowledge and experience, including his infamous street smarts, for a higher use, which will require some good old-fashioned tapping into his higher power.

The notion of Mercury, the psychopomp, being a conductor of souls, has some real-life applications for men born under in Gemini, and it is all hinged on the sign’s I think motto. Along with Whitman and Emerson, whose work which very much focused on the relationship between the individual soul and the world at large, this is the sign of Sartre and Pascal and Heidegger and the controversial—some say fraud and conman—Norman Vincent Peale who, with his book, popularized The Power of Positive Thinking. Many of his most important life lessons will derive from listening not to the better angel on his one shoulder but the little devil on the other. Sometimes a Gemini man really needs to go to hell and back to grasp a full understanding of his existence and what the take-aways are that can guide him, and, often others, too, forward. So-called spirituality, for him, has very practical applications, or should have. All his life he can talk the talk, but eventually he must walk the walk, honing his philosophy of life in the process of living it. Every Gemini man needs transcend to some degree the sense that they are getting away with whatever their particular it is. He will come to learn how much simpler life can be when he quits his notorious gaming, whether it be some form of cheating, a ubiquity of white lies for no good reason, or a default expectation that the world owes him something that he shouldn’t have to roll up his sleeves and do the honest work of achieving, on the up and up. Spirituality for the Gemini is really being as much an agent for good as you can be, using that clever brain, to remain conscious in both thought and action. That is what winning really looks like—not the execution of Machiavellian moves. And, surely, it is on the home front, in your close relationships, where much of your personal work can, and should, begin.

Taurus 11° (May 1)

S. will head off to Boston today and I will focus on writing but get lost a bit in the process of making meals and trying to stay on top of other household chores. Here are some thoughts of an astrological nature: The second astrological house is all about content, and Taurus contentment is derived from knowing, owning, the value you bring to the proverbial table. By the same token, you must be careful not to be grabby or grubbing with money or time. We have observed many a Taurus take on the role of breadwinner in her relationship, partners increasingly relying on the combined talents and hard-work ethic that women of the sign possess. And though loved ones will express gratitude for her ability to generate wealth, if not just plain old keep a roof over their heads, this is not the kind of appreciation Taurus should settle for. Just because she can bring home the bacon and fry it up in the pan doesn’t mean she should. If you do, Taurus, you must make absolutely sure that the partnership is otherwise balanced. Being someone’s cash cow is a recipe for relationship disaster. Taurus 10° (April 30)

I need to cut the crap and fast. My anxiety level is starting to spike again due to all the swirling factors in my life. I do think I reached a new limit. And I definitely need to take proactive approach and soothe my nerves. Going to focus on some astrological thoughts: Depicted as a beautiful woman with a headdress of cow’s horns, the ancient Egyptian goddess Hathor has dual manifestations: she is sometimes Hesat, the goddess in the benign form of a snow-white heifer, representing purity, whose milk gave life to all humanity, and Sekhmet, the goddess in furious, destructive aspect. She was daughter, mother and consort, all, to the principle male gods, including of both Horus (the sky) and Ra (the sun) and symbolic mother to all pharaohs. Later, the goddess Isis begins to assume elements of her estate and fuse with her, Isis and Hathor paralleling Io and Hera. She was said to represent the ancient Egyptian perception of femininity—women were legally equal to men and could own property, providing them an unusually elevated status as compared with other cultures. As a goddess of love and sexual expression, she was likened to the Greek Aphrodite and Roman Venus, with whom she shares association with the morning and evening stars. She is a goddess of fertility, of joy, and above all, gratitude, an attribute one doesn’t often see as being the province of a deity’s power. After teaching humanity life lessons as Sekhmet, she reassumes her benevolent form of Hathor, a benefactress providing beautiful, inspiring gifts to humanity. She is the primordial mother from whom all other goddesses are considered to be offshoots, grafted from her. To worship the great cow goddess Hathor all one had to do was, simply, offer her gratitude. Taurus 9° (April 29)

Danger Will Robinson.Very strange night of sleep. I had multiple dreams involving animals with human intelligence starting with a mouse with whom I made (loose) tea. That was an odd one, filled with dark woods leading onto a private compound and forest paths and gates and characters gathering for some kind of cult purpose. Very dark and mysterious. And then there was a dream in which I was sleeping—exciting sounding isn’t it—and I could feel animals moving underneath the covers but I could never quite catch them when I pull the blankets back. Until I did and there was a tiny hedgehog, a little furball that let me pet it. I had a dream about a talking hedgehog many years ago—it didn’t speak a language I knew but sort of one of screeching which was kind of disturbing but magical. The setting then was the Meatpacking District in Manhattan. This one was teeny tiny, like a furby, something that could sit in the palm of your hand. And then the dream switched and there were a couple of hedgehogs but these foreign looking characters with swords tried to slit their throats. I think I got to save them in time I can’t remember. What I do recall from the many moons ago when I did dream of the talking one is that they are sacred to Hermes, which makes sense in light of the winged creature that landed on my yesterday. In my dream, too, I think I was homeless and decided to get a mattress to put in the back of my van. I’m hoping it’s just because I watched Nomadland last month and that it isn’t a premonition…Anyway I will get some cooking and then some editing and then lunch of leftover flounder and chips with salad (I have a chowder on the hob for dinner) and after a client I have to write a few pages before winding down this day. Someone is already mentioning pizza. To be fair I forgot to take the frozen clams out of the freeze so we just might have to have a easy cheesey meal after all. I will end up making a delicious pasta sauce, so fresh tomato-wise with carmelized red onion, oregano, rosemary, parsley and anchovy. I will do a funny dance later in the evening and we will have a fire. Senor FF didn’t show his ff here today, which makes me think that he is finally having to deliver some goods.

Taurus 8° (April 28)

Comprehensive chat with the lawyer in regard to last night’s chat. Feeling even better now. S. is off to get fixins for Full Moon dinner number three!I set myself up to work on the partly sunny deck and was just doing some editing of chapter drafts when I felt this strange pressing sensation on my left shoulder and I thought, being the anxiety ridden freak I am, that, oh well, maybe this is what a stroke or MS feels like and with a sigh I just decided to move my left shoulder and it resulted in this startling sensation, like a flapping in my ear. You see a chickadee had landed on me as I was reading and then when I moved I scared it off, but not too far—it simply alighted to the nearest by branch of cherry tree in blossom.

And my zodiacal diatribe continues: You’ve heard the term “old soul” bandied about, but what about a young one? That’s what you are, Taurus, a young soul, so-called, which is not to say you’re new on the eternal celestial scene (if that could be a thing) but, rather, in our estimation, someone who, it has been determined, is and/or should be learning life’s lesson, and earning its just rewards, from a most archetypally fresh perspective. It’s easiest enough to do in your youth, Taurus, despite being distracted by all those aforementioned curve balls and monkey wrenches; which makes you wonder, as you get older, if you were as available as you could have been to all the good (and goods) life was throwing at you. Regrets, you’ll have a few, but it really is best not to mention, let alone dwell on, them. You wonder if you could have done more, sooner, such that you could have enjoyed a proverbial cocktail of youth and success. But don’t we all. Mostly, it hinges on that performative aspect of being a Taurus player on this stage called life. Could you have performed, and can you keep performing, your part even more to the hilt to dispel any self-doubt that you’ve done all you can to provide yourself every happiness—or did you overplay, and are you still, chewing the scenery, obsessing over your role to the exclusion of other joys you might have afforded yourself if you weren’t so charged with making your mark? Taurus 7° (April 27)

Our dear friend Raina will pop over today to help me with some plumbing and psychological issues, mainly where the ‘twain meet. I am definitely digging out today and it feels good to get through a number of pages and not feel totally bored or panicked. We will go for a walk again and it is so much warmer than it was yesterday. Amazing night sipping and snacking on olives and cheese and crackers on the deck; and then a lovely roasted chicken with sweet potato chips and kale. We had a savage chat about our real estate situation and am feeling very empowered. Full moon dinner number two! Now some deepish astrological thoughts: Whereas Taurus man is hands down the biggest bullshitter on the astrological block without even knowing it (or pretending he doesn’t), Taurus woman is nothing of the kind, but nonetheless can feel like a fake, counterfeit, when she truly is, to coin some urban slang, “money,” that is to say possessing a quality personality, sociability, pride in appearance, and, at the very least, one superlative talent. Now, if we can only get the entire Taurus female population on board with this…in the meantime, what Taurus does disguise well is her insecurity surrounding what she might consider a lack in any of these or other areas within herself. Such that even at times when Taurus is crumbling inside, she will still seem to be crushing it on the outside, brimming on the surface, nearly feeling it her responsibility to keep up appearances, if not for own, then for others’ sake. Although she doesn’t do so for the purposes of her own gain like her Bull brother will at the drop of a montera (matador’s hat), Taurus woman people-pleases all the same, smiling through even deepest sorrow so as not to be a burden. Even in the rare instances where she begins to confide internal discomfort, she will stop herself, and with a signature wave of her hand that says never mind it’s not important, brushing aside her ill feelings, never wanting to be seen to complain. Putting on a happy face is in large part at the root of what mundane astrology might casually cite as Taurus woman’s love of fashion and cosmetics. In truth, the planet named for the goddess of grace and beauty, Venus works her magic through the substantial second house in literal, tangible ways—makes sense that “things” that are prized for their beauty are therefore more valuable than those that aren’t, beauty, in a sense, being synonymous with quality, carrying higher price tags. Wanting to appear beautiful to the Taurus is a natural instinct and to fashion herself as such isn’t an expression of artifice but one of artistic license and, indeed, responsibility. A nugget of pure gold, for instance, isn’t as valuable as a beautiful object of piece of jewelry made from it.

Taurus 6° (April 26)

Cutting losses with social media and with errant colleagues—our patience has come to a natural end. Will be chilly today but going to take a long walk in town nonetheless. The same house from which we heard yelling has an aggressive bitch (I’ve never used that word in a proper context!) that came charging at us. I honestly don’t know what S. would have done if she were alone. It was especially freezing near the harbor. Full Moon dinner number one! Anyway I will get some more zodiacal thoughts down on virtual paper: That gaslighting and second guessing: It causes a rift in personality, such that one feels that being their true, natural self isn’t enough, or worse, too much. Taurus females are a sensitive bunch, and they feel the brunt of any assault, no matter how subtle, register in their emotional body which can ultimately manifest physically. To use a bovine metaphor, Taurus feels branded by the labels people slap on her, and they aren’t easy for her to shake off. So as carefree, and even wild, as you are meant to be, Taurus, you are, paradoxically, the most readily yoked and corralled. Now, sometimes it’s not just jealous peers and siblings who take part in cutting you down to their desired size—we had long suspected, and years working with clients has confirmed, that there’s about a fifty-fifty chance that Taurus’s own mother can, if only at times, pile on, incapable of keeping her own jealousy of her daughter in check. Taurus and her mom are generally not cut from the same cloth, the elder being very status- (and self-) conscious, cautious and admonishing, and so she might turn a blind eye to the Taurus being emotionally body-slammed by other children, including her own. More times than not Taurus’ parents lead quite separate lives, even if they’ve remained together under the same roof, and the Bull girl may feel that it is her father alone who sees through the glare of the gaslight for who she truly is.

Taurus 5° (April 25)

Going to get a jump on the food preparation for the week and looking very much forward to seeing the big S. Unfortch the evening will end on a sour note but I think it’s the kind of major Full Moon correction that is indeed called for. And my cosmic ruminations continue thus: The first thing we tell a private client who comes to see us for an individual consultation is that the Sun placement in their chart really signifies the hero’s journey, that it is the you that you are becoming. The Sun symbol is one of completion, a full circle surrounding a central dot, which signifies, among other things, the individual being, feeling centered within a perfect sphere of experience of their own making, their achieved sense of fulfillment and wholeness. And if you don’t believe in the notion that people (re)incarnate as a particular sign to experience and work through the energies and influences and life lessons endemic to that sign for the metaphysical purpose of a more soul-level evolution over manylifetimes, you might nonetheless accept the notion that, if you’re born with Sun in Taurus, then you are here to travel that sign’s particular path, and that your ideas surrounding what constitutes said wholeness, fulfillment, completion, contentment, even success in this lifetime, would be viewed and described in Taurus terms. That is to say your hero’s journey as a Taurus woman is meant to be something of a pure, unadulterated experience whereby you come to understand and fully embrace your own true nature, living a life devoid of apology and self-recrimination, expressing yourself to the full extent of your power, possessing all the creature comforts you crave while never losing sight of the simple joys in life, to be forever awed by nature and human ingenuity, alike; to never stop learning life lessons and earning humanitarian respect and appreciation for contributing to the comfort and ease of others, particularly the “innocents” of the world—children or those who are otherwise helpless and vulnerable; and in the process, to experience the power and joy of meaningful bonds and mutual love. Taurus 4° (April 24)

Spent the day cleaning up and getting everything in order. S. will say she is staying another day and will get ears pierced. I am getting my brain further around everything currently on my plate and it’s cool. I really do feel that I have plenty of time to tick all the necessary boxes. And so I will record some more astrological thoughts: As a rule, people born under fixed signs aren’t initiators, instigators or originators of ideas, waves or movements in their creative work the way the cardinal signs, which precede them on the cosmic wheel, can be. Cardinals, though fantastic at coming up with ideas, have a more difficult time realizing them. Fixed signs, Taurus in particular, are fantastic at, forgiving the pun, beefing up said ideas, fleshing them out and putting meat on their bones, providing substance and sustainability, two Taurus watchwords if there ever were any. Fixed signs drill down (and sometimes get stuck) embodying all things associated with being fixed (okay, maybe not all). Taurus energy can be stubborn, obstinate, determined, deliberate, grounded, immovable, terms to describe a real bull itself. Taurus people believe that this is part and parcel of avoiding complication and confrontation, from which they steer clear at all cost. Taurus will yes people to death while still not altering their position and, if they feel pushed too far, they will simply remove themselves from situations or relationships, cutting off all communication. For, you, Taurus it is all about profit and loss, and if there is an excess of agita involved in your personal or professional dealings that doesn’t make an association worth your time and energy you will cut your losses and put your investment elsewhere. Even dead ends for you are naturally perceived as opportunities, closed doors only hastening you toward open windows of them.
