Was thinking about Derek—maybe had a dream about him. This day will end weirdly with FF pulling onto the property, getting out of his truck, leaning on it, and berating me while I’m in the shower. It is getting really out of control and contributing to some panic symtoms. Anyway I have some astro work to do: That which Cancer man wants to instill in those in whom he invests his time and attention is a total sense of security. And few of us will disallow him from playing the metaphorical role of designated driver, if not trust being in his hands over our own. Cancer is always appealing to someone, in one sense of the term or other. In our first book Sextrology his chapter is titled The Player, and he is indeed a natural actor, a coolly emotive and romantic figure who is rarely so macho a man as to read in the least bit threatening, any form of misogyny being largely absent in the Moonchild population. Among other attributes, the astrological fourth house, under the sign’s rule, governs the popular opinion of women—Cancer man inherently knows how to particularly play on the emotions and opinions of the women who populate his own life. And as the title also suggests, Cancer is determined to be an A-player in business, that is to say one who is seen as adding great value to a company, institution or industry. As far as being a player in relationships goes, defined as someone who plays on a lover or mate’s emotions and then either ghosts or cheats on them or both: We say yes to the emotions bit, but generally no to any blackguard behavior. It may be the height of Cancer irony, but what men of the sign are mostly pretending is to be real—that Pinocchio archetype again. Possibly no other man wants to secure and sustain a steady relationship more than this one. He is, in all things tenacious, so much so we have likened him to gum on the shoe—or, in our live performances, in an adult cabaret setting, on a few occasions, one of us just might have delivered the line: Crabs are so hard to get rid of. But it’s true! Guys of the sign are naturally insinuating, though perhaps not so much to be insidious. Cancer naturally subscribes to the notion that the fulfillment of his potential requires getting his hooks into certain “host” people and situations that provide patronage and a stable environment where what he perceives to be his destined success can unfold in the fullness of time. He is a firm believer that fulfillment takes two. Just as Cancer woman draws on the Cinderella archetype, so is the male Moonchild the prototypical Prince Charming, at once benign and unthreatening, but positioned himself as a proverbial catch. And, boy, does he want to get caught. Meanwhile, Cancer man keeps it simple and his head down, quietly powering through. He is entirely pleasant, as a rule, across the board, to friends and acquaintances alike. In fact, there often seems little difference between the amount of interest or affection he appears to invest in any case. As suggested, he isn’t very present minded—something you can work on, Moonchild—which, to be fair, may be product of being cosmically engineered to continually look, with hope, toward the future. Future tripping for the Cancer may result in anxiety; and he must strive to find increasing comfort in uncertainty, which he mostly does by keeping what he can, year on year, the same. Change, the good kind—success, renown, financial reward—mostly comes to the Cancer, inhabiting the same well-worn waters, cased in his carefully cultivated, protective shell. The world, existence, for him is all too real, despite his Walter Mitty-esque flights of imaginative fancy—he is probably the least prone of individuals to employ any form of magical thinking (or so he thinks). He is surely one of the existentialists of the zodiac, not given to the proverbial opiates of religion or set belief systems. He might intellectually perceive an ordered universe, but his gut tells him that the bulk of existence is random, and thus up to him to make the necessary inroads. He doesn’t understand—and won’t even agree with this, reading it, now—that his infamous daydreaming is a form of what we call, wishcraft, something women of the sign are typically well aware they have the power to perform. Cancer man is an unwitting practitioner.

Taurus 19° (May 9)

I don’t understand much of what’s what these days. And today I must take a sharp turn in the right direction which I will do. I need to rid my system of any excess now and begin a bit of a recovery and the thing is I really want to. I am going to take a nice long walk as well I think. Time to get out the old tide chart. And now some more astro thoughts:

She risks heaping negative attention on her daughters especially while have an awe for sons whom she mostly leaves to their own devices, sending the message that the male spawn can do no wrong while her female offspring need extra care and assistance, which is a projection of her own feelings as a girl growing up. Virgo does well to directly address her fears of parenting with support groups or even therapy. If any woman in the zodiac were to drift into Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy territory it would most likely be the Virgo, who, in family life, tends not to be the most chill of characters. As in most aspects of her life, she tends to overthink, overmanage and overdo, which serves her well in her career, but not in the confines of her home. Though it’s generally true for everybody that they should love what they do, professionally, for the Virgo it is absolutely crucial. She is a supermotivated team player, happiest working behind the scenes, but otherwise in charge of operations. She is the consummate major domo in all aspects of life, so it is best for her to allow her control-freak flag fly at work, so she does it forever wave it on the home front. Something of which Virgo needs reminding—and reading this right now, Virgo, you’re likely to dismiss this assessment—is that she is most often the smartest individual in the room. The few of you out there nodding your heads in agreement likely had parents whose default opinion, based on experience, was that girls tend to be smarter than boys on the whole. It will always be difficult for the Virgo to have, as she most often does (for some reason) just one male sibling who, whether a genius or rather thick will steal familial focus. But if Virgo has a number of siblings, and especially if they are all males, she will be crowned queen smarty pants and take on an exalted role, alongside her parents, as an authority figure to be heeded and revered. Still, being labelled “the responsible one” had have its serious downsides because it often entails not being given the kind of emotional support that her more needy siblings might garner. Also, being seen by her parents as autonomous from a young age actually makes it difficult for Virgo to accept attention, support, and even love when it is in the offing come adulthood. In the musical Jesus Christ Superstar the Virgo character archetype Mary Magdalene sings “I Don’t Know How To Love Him”, while, in life, many women of the sign everywhere are forever silently crooning: I don’t know how to let myself be loved by him, her or them.

Taurus 18° (May 8)

Rocky morning but soon smooths out. Deep into the book now and S. has begun reading drafts and they will be approved which is great. I will make a love chicory salad with roasted garlic dressing, pear, walnut and Roquefort. We are celebrating a bit tonight…woo hoo. Watching Girls5Eva and Talia and John and their son Harry who is magic make an appearance. So sweet.  And now on with the writing: Rarely a party girl, the majority of Virgos being moderate when it comes to intoxicants, she is nonetheless social and fun-loving, her notorious form of indulgence being food in general, and sweets specifically. Many women of the sign can become obsessed with their weight which they tend to carry in the lower bodies. Went to the supply store and found exactly what was needed. Chat with lawyer and the incident reports will have to be written up which I’ll try to do on the weekend. Flashing back to that small period of time when we all had ipods. When music could still be owned for the last time. Getting not as much work done as is required and I must seriously get myself in check in order to make things work properly. Anyway, the writing continues:Indeed, when darkness descends on Virgo it can be most disconcerting. What friends don’t understand is that to lift herself up again, it sometimes takes a complete change in social atmosphere. Nothing gets you down more, Virgo, than feeling stuck in situations; and, though you process things rather slowly, keeping surrounding thoughts and feels of dissatisfaction in others, in particular, to yourself. This is highly ironic because you make no secret about being treated shabbily bycertain people or in certain circumstances—in fact, your running monologue of complaint is centered on feeling snubbed or unwanted or ignored by those who “should” appreciate you. But those to whom you are making your protestations? The so-called friends you don’t hesitate from using as your sounding boards? Well, you may be loath to admit it, but sometimes they are just placeholders for you. Then, out of the blue there comes a day when you look around at your social sphere and you find yourself in the doldrums—again your, shall we say, realizations, have been slowly churning on route to surfacing—and, seemingly suddenly, you come to the conclusion that the your being dragged down into emotional hades is due to the company you keep, that your slowly, darkly, descending personal hell is others. And so, without a word of warning to what has become, in your estimation, a tired crowd, you simply go poof; and you do so, especially, (read: always) when there is a more desirable social circle giving you the hi-sign. A lesser evolved Virgo will justify this by taking on a victim identity, projecting blame onto stymied others, while convincing herself that she deserves a more aspirational milieu. A more self-realized Virgo would take responsibility for her sentiments and not wait until “better” people and situations came along before abruptly ditching out; she would taper off her involvements and perhaps—perish the thought—take some alone time to soul-search and prioritize her feeling goals. Because, chances are, Virgo, you will just repeat this pattern time and again, altering your personality to be what you consider appealing to each sphere you enter into, only to ultimately dump it as well, the reason being you eventually tire of trying to fit in rather than letting like-minds and suitable situations gravitate your way as you focus on becoming increasingly your true self, not one manufactured for others’ acceptance. Today is the day I transition from going back over what has already been done to, bearing all that this process now pretty much now entails, getting up pre-dawn and moving the needle rather quickly through this entire process, working doubles for about two months, in order to bring this major project home. It is probably the most challenging task I have set up for myself, and one that is occurring during a time of severe duress on many levels. But with each move of the needle I am also going to commit to my health on all metaphysical levels. Friend came by to help turn on the water, but we had the wrong part. The resident evil went on the attack and threated us again and then ironically called the police…on himself? This is the last straw and now we will get some sort of restraining order. Taurus 15° (May 5)

Truly hoping that this time sees some resolution in coming days. Meanwhile I’m going to take stock of my own reactions and start being a lot kinder to myself in this process. I have done pretty much all that I can do. So now I need to leave it slightly up to the universe. Speaking of cosmic things, I have some thoughts to get down:

Such a dynamic goes a long way to keep some much-required mystery in the relationship, not to mention plain old warding against a mate getting on her last nerve. On that score, Gemini does have a short fuse, and she can get as cranky as a teenager going through growing pains. Spontaneity is the key ingredient of her sexuality, so anything that keeps things fresh with a partner will be highly appreciated. She will do her part, expressing her provocative self, to tempt a partner many different ways; as she values a sense of newness in the mix, tending to be nostalgic for her own youth which would have been associated with erotic experimentation, initiation and an artless extemporaneity. This is in keeping with her overall, we can call it feigned, naivete, her infamous playing of the guileless ingenue. She wants to be taken by surprise or otherwise inspire sudden moves on her by a mate. It’s at once validating but also takes her back to more hormonally raging times when resistance to mutual sexual urges were all but futile. She likes to think she so irresistible that a quicky something, taken unawares, or even if just being felt up, inspired by the sight of her, simply, say, doing some dishes, isn’t ever out of the question. Her erotic interest is never completely divorced from a cheeky bit of fun, just as hers is not a deeply contemplative brand of spirituality, but one of communal interaction that is as much socializing as it is some form of worship. The Gemini gamine is, in a word, game; and she may try on many different so-called spiritual practices as she might, variety being the spice of every aspect of her life. As the sign rules respiration, she will definitely benefit from practices that feature breath work—pranayama, kundalini and the like, which she may find deepen the connection to her erotic self as much as it does that of an increasingly soulful connection with the universe, existence, the eternal, the infinite, or fill in the blank. These times of practices also go a long way to calm her existential fears on aging, which can become a preoccupation, and beyond.  Despite taking what she would like to consider a no-nonsense approach to life, Gemini can be high-strung and experience her fair share of psychological troubles, her motto I think often having the parenthetical word over inserted into the middle of it. Tinker Bell’s incessant obsessions and manipulations and motivations for revenge oft outweigh her cuteness and caring. When you think about it, even Juliet was a bit manic, and who’s to say she would have settled into a quiet relationship with Romeo in the end once the excitement and intrigue and newness of it all would have worn off. Gemini women can be restless souls who, for one reason or another, can’t help but stir up a little trouble themselves. We repeat ourselves on this subject, but the likes of Wallis Simpson, Josephine Baker, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, Lisa Lopes, Jewel, Kathleen Turner, Angelina Jolie, Naomi Campbell, Juliet Lewis, Gina Gershon, Anne Heche, Lauryn Hill, at least one Olsen twin, and the original gypsy witch herself, Stevie Nicks, as gifted or glorified as they may be, they are no strangers to turmoil of the inner kind, nor that which they stir up. Extreme cases aside, the Gemini must use her natural restlessness, channeling it into work and activities that allow for a variety of experiences or interactions. Routine can feel like a bird cage from which there is no freedom. The trick is to build reliance through her inborn adaptability, which is, ironically, in conflict with Gemini’s concurrent dislike for real change, which when not the surface sort, can trigger anxiety, even real panic, in the Twins woman. She also does well to embrace and foster the more outgoing elements of her personality, which itself does battle with her more insular predilections.

Taurus 14° (May 4)

Juliet, in anticipation of her loving communion with Romeo, speaks of sex in terms of death, which was already metaphorically linked in Shakespeare’s time: Come, gentle night, come, loving black-browed night/Give me my Romeo, and when I shall die,/Take him and cut him out in little stars. To die, in Elizabethan slang, meant to orgasm, the image of Romeo as a sky full of stars is both a portrayal of Juliet’s own sexual climax, while being a nod to the original Gemini twins—one mortal, one divine—striking a bargain to be both “immortalized” as stars, forming the constellation of the sign, so as to remain together for all eternity. As we said, Juliet is always a bit ahead of herself, early to her balcony, and many times in the drama, anticipating, summoning her love as well as natural forces like Night, mother to Eris. The point is that Juliet’s impatience is one and the same as her power to conjure, a word with multiple meanings including: to raise (the meaning of the name Eris), to mesmerize (charm and spellbind) and juggle (perform tricks). In this light, Maleficent has indeed presented Sleeping Beauty with a gift, raising her up, providing her with some supernatural game of her own. The curse was never not simultaneously a blessing. Gemini should understand the force of her natural state of being, including her own impatience and her constant juggling of responsibility, so the former might not be in vain just as the latter might be more than mere multitasking. They rather both constitute the attitude and behavior which brings about desired outcomes, such that Gemini’s own sense of expectancy is itself a form of magic, setting off flares, sending out, into the ether, invisible messaging from her affirmative mind to let the universe know her intentions, meeting it half way, expecting it to deliver what it might, in the form of cosmic assists. For the Gemini bird, above all others, thoughts really do have wings. Whether or not you subscribe to the working of magic, we can all agree that Gemini woman’s mind works overtime to guarantee she gets hers in life. Especially a soul mate; because she believes in them, just as she does love at first sight. And nobody falls into it more often, readily or deeply than she. As any magpie, she seeks a permanent lifelong bond, the irony being that she tends to have more of them than most, in one lifetime, that is. Hers are working partnerships, one wherein she plays boss lady in public, but team player in private. As we say, she will have her vices (neuroses and phobias, too), which she may even keep hidden from a significant other, especially, but on the whole she is one of the more caring and reliable people on the planet. In love and familial relationships, she is loyal and protect to the end, typically stepping in to handle the big issues and inevitable life-and-death events. She does need her alone time, so she does appreciate an independent partner or even one with an obsessive hobby, sport or interest that will keep him or her occupied much of the time.

Taurus 13° (May 3)

Not too much to clean up. S. returns with La Stoppa we will have a proper meal to which I am looking forward.  Rejigging the schedule and getting forward momentum going. Of all the men in the zodiac, Gemini needs to be friends first with a significant other, which can engender much affection and provide a strong foundation for family life. However, given the aforementioned schism where the Twins guy mightn’t bring his more prurient desires to what he considers a pristine bond with a partner he’s put on a pedestal, he may explore more lascivious longings with another lass or lad. The straight Gemini is prone to rescue fantasies, and he might see himself as a savior of sorts, making a silent bargain whereby he has swooped in and provided a partner with romantic love and a stable home environment, and so he might rationalize indulging his wandering eye when nobody’s looking. He is an incurable flirt, which he won’t even attempt to hide, an expression of that eternal teen age associated with his sign. If any guy is going to play footsy or get handsy with a thigh belonging to someone other than his mate, under the table, it is this tricky fellow. Nobody becomes more easily bored with the same experience, day in and day out, and given that guilt is rarely an emotion that would keep questionable actions in check, he would do well to have a serious conversation with a mate about would-be parameters beyond a strictly monogamous set-up. Ironically, given Gemini’s penchant to “stray,” he is one to remain committed, married, pairing for life, the hall passes he gives himself actually, he’ll rationalize, enabling him to do so.

Taurus 12° (May 2)

S. will see some properties on the North Shore and I will soldier on with my astrological musings: The reason why we can like and root for a character like Marty is because the world is an unfair place that’s rigged against the proverbial little guy, an underdog (we also associate the cartoon character of the same name to Gemini). We can all relate to the notion of bucking systems that are meant to keep us down and for men of this sign the end truly does justify the means, especially if that end is to provide for a family, doing good by breaking bad. Nobody can think quicker on their feet than Gemini, the zodiac’s expert at getting out of scrapes. At some point in his self-development, however, there comes a time to put all his accumulated knowledge and experience, including his infamous street smarts, for a higher use, which will require some good old-fashioned tapping into his higher power.

The notion of Mercury, the psychopomp, being a conductor of souls, has some real-life applications for men born under in Gemini, and it is all hinged on the sign’s I think motto. Taurus 11° (May 1)

S. will head off to Boston today and I will focus on writing but get lost a bit in the process of making meals and trying to stay on top of other household chores. Here are some thoughts of an astrological nature: The second astrological house is all about content, and Taurus contentment is derived from knowing, owning, the value you bring to the proverbial table. By the same token, you must be careful not to be grabby or grubbing with money or time. We have observed many a Taurus take on the role of breadwinner in her relationship, partners increasingly relying on the combined talents and hard-work ethic that women of the sign possess. And though loved ones will express gratitude for her ability to generate wealth, if not just plain old keep a roof over their heads, this is not the kind of appreciation Taurus should settle for. Just because she can bring home the bacon and fry it up in the pan doesn’t mean she should. If you do, Taurus, you must make absolutely sure that the partnership is otherwise balanced. Being someone’s cash cow is a recipe for relationship disaster. While, of all the women in the zodiac, Taurus most needs clear demonstrations of affection and desire in equal measure, and to be romanced and at least a bit spoiled by a mate on a semi-regular basis, and typically none too subtly. Taurus understands effort and she wants to be paid tribute; the more overt and obvious the display of affection the more of an aphrodisiacal effect it will have on her. And it works both ways: Nothing will provide an emotional pick-me-up more for the Taurus than a slew of spa and salon visits followed by a shopping spree.
